Pressure sensors: measuring pressures

If you want to measure a pressure, you will certainly need to select a sensor that matches the desired accuracy and range you are interested in. It is important to remember here that the peak pressure is often a multiple of the nominal pressure. This can sometimes be two or three times the maximum value during normal use.

Liquids may also cause the water hammer action: an ultra-short pressure pulse that arises when a tap is suddenly closed. Most sensors are not able to cope with this. Always be sure to check the peak pressures expected in your system and what a sensor can handle.
